1. Introduction
Clipist is a macOS menu bar utility that allows users to quickly capture selected text from any application and send it as a new task to their Todoist account using a global keyboard shortcut. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your data is used.
2. Data Collection and Usage
a. Accessibility Access
Why We Request Accessibility:
Clipist requires Accessibility permission to read the text you have selected in any application. This is necessary to capture the selected text when you use the global shortcut (Cmd+Shift+T).
How It's Used: The App only accesses selected text when you explicitly trigger the capture action. No other accessibility data is accessed or stored.
b. Clipboard Access
Why We Access the Clipboard:
To capture the selected text, Clipist temporarily uses the system clipboard. The clipboard is only accessed at the moment you use the capture shortcut.
How It's Used: The clipboard's previous contents are restored after the capture process. Clipist does not store or transmit clipboard data except for the text you choose to send to Todoist.
c. Todoist API Token
Why We Store Your Token:
To add tasks to your Todoist account, you must provide an API token. This token is securely stored in your macOS Keychain and is never transmitted to any server except Todoist's official API.
How It's Used: The token is used solely for authenticating requests to the Todoist API.
d. Network Access
Why We Use Network Access:
The App sends the selected text to Todoist's servers to create a new task.
How It's Used: Only the text you explicitly choose to send is transmitted. No other data is sent or collected.
e. Notifications
Why We Request Notification Permission:
Clipist uses notifications to inform you of the success or failure of sending a task to Todoist.
How It's Used: No personal data is collected or transmitted via notifications.
3. Data Retention
- Clipist does not store any captured text, clipboard contents, or user data beyond what is necessary for the immediate operation of the app.
- The Todoist API token is stored securely in the macOS Keychain and can be deleted by the user at any time via the app's settings.
4. Data Sharing
No Third-Party Sharing:
Clipist does not share your data with any third parties. The only external service contacted is Todoist, and only for the purpose of adding tasks you explicitly request.
5. User Control
- You may revoke Accessibility, Input Monitoring, and Notification permissions at any time via System Settings.
- You may delete your Todoist API token from the app's settings at any time.
6. Security
- All sensitive data (such as your Todoist API token) is stored using the macOS Keychain, which is encrypted and protected by your system credentials.
- The app does not log, store, or transmit any data beyond what is required for its core functionality.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the app and, if significant, communicated to users.
